A lifetime of love
These eyes are tired,
blurred with fond remembrance,
the haze of summer days
when we raced together,
fingers and hearts intertwined,
through golden stalked fields
and determined dreams.
These eyes are fading,
the substance subsiding,
changing,
nothing more to see
that has not been lovingly seen,
as we travel more slowly
into infinite direction,
the light around us
growing dim.
Oh, that I could see clearly once more
to gaze upon the soul in your eyes,
call your name
and quell the need in my heart
to touch your skin
to lie with you again,
to see and feel
the solid sureness of this life,
until soil is thrown
and we ourselves are dust.
Thank you for joining me here.
